We can now reveal that Litfest 2018 – November 2nd and 3rd – will [subject to funding] be even bigger and better than last year. We are still using the super new Dalton Community Centre as our base for both the Launch on the Friday evening and most events on the Saturday, though we are looking for other venues in the town too.
We are having more writers, more workshops, and bigger projects. Responding to suggestions in the feedback, we will include scriptwriting and drama, improve the bookshop and signage, and build partnerships with more organisations. We will also ensure we have a better record of our events with an official photographer as well as a social media co-ordinator.
One development we are particularly pleased about is that the wonderful “Poem and a Pint” team, usually based about four miles north [!] are coming to Dalton and running the Open Mic session for us.
Although most of the visiting writers will still be Cumbrian, we are inviting a few from further afield including … a BIG name! We can’t reveal names yet even though eight, yes eight, have already agreed to come. The duet interviews are on the subjects/genres of FANTASY NOVELS, FOOD WRITING, THRILLERS, WARTIME MEMOIRS and RELATIONSHIP STORIES. We are also planning half day workshops for budding poets and scriptwriters as well as writing workshops for children in schools the week before.
In addition, we will have a “Book Market” for local self-published writers to advertise their wares and other stalls of literary interest.
But watch this space in future weeks for more information. We on the committee are certainly very excited.
